Touchscreen is partially unresponsive

The central part of the touchscreen is irresponsive, so I can't slide to unlock. Reading previous answers I understand that the problem could be the digitizer.

I could't find out what is the difference between display and digitizer in terms of spare parts as I didn't find a specific part called digitizer. Could you please explain?
