Door ERROR during wash - interlock fault?

Block Image

About a year ago (almost to the day!!!), I had a load of washing that I couldn't get out of my washer because the door wouldn't open. Upon investigation I found that the door interlock has burnt out. I'm not sure what the piece is called that connects to the interlock (connector block?), but it was badly burnt and slightly melted, although the 3 metal contacts were still intact. Some of the interlock was damaged too, so I bought a new interlock and fit it to the burnt connector and it has been fine since. But this evening during a wash, my machine started beeping to say there was a door error - that it wasn't closed. When I pushed on the door, I heard a buzzing noise and the lock icon was shown on the display, but when I tried to rerun the wash, it said the same error. I'm not sure what to do? Do I buy a new interlock, or is the connector the problem - if so are these replaceable too, or does it mean I need a new machine? :(

I've added a photo showing the old burnt out interlock and the burnt connector. I noticed on my new interlock, that one of the contacts is slightly burnt...possibly causing the door error. Hopefully, if I get a new interlock, the problem will go away, unless its the connector block that also needs replacing...

Jo11, this is a tricky washer. I would suggest a new door interlock part number DC64-00653A. The connector may be a bit more tricky. Samsung does sell the wiring harness, the main one is `$30 and the sub one is ~$20 we just have to find which one is needed. If at all possible post an image of the connector with your original question. this way we may be able to help you a bit better. Follow this guide to post an image. I don't think you have to buy a new washer. We can always teach you to repair the wiring with different connectors:-). Hope this helps good luck.

Jo11, thanks for the pictures. Yup, sure looks like your connector has issues :-) I would replace it with a few cables connector and without the block. I am certain that you would run into trouble trying to find one. I would replace it with connectors like this http://www.elecdirect.com/catalog/9a0aa4... they are easy to obtain, have the right voltage rating and should fit. Looking at the damage on the connector, it is possible that the wiring is also damaged on the connector. The repair should only cost a few $ and I would not chance to reuse that connector on a new interlock.

Thank for your very useful post. The technician who came to diagnose my washing machine clipped off the connector. I would appreciate if you guide me what color of cable goes into what pin ? The pins labeled 3 4 and 5. I have bought a new interlock part but I'm missing the socket pin you are showing in the top 2 pictures. I want to improvise.

Regards

The switch is activated by a magnet on the inside right of the front section of the lid. When the lid closes the magnet pulls on the switch. If that doesn't occur the dE error shows. I cured it by taping a strong fridge magnet to the outside of the lid above the spot where the magnet is located.
