I have the same issue with the white screen. I bought my DMC-TZ5 used off eBay to replace a prior model that stopped functioning. Not long after I got a large burnout like spot on the display. I shook the camera a bit and the spot shrunk a bit but I still have it. I worked around that for quite a while until the white screen started happening nd it became difficult to frame shots. Again, I smacked the camera in my hand while it was off and eventually after a few tries, it would come back on when I turned the camera on. It got worse though. It seems now that if I turn it on and the white screen comes on, if I remove the battery while it is on, then re-insert it and turn the unit off then on, the screen starts to work again, but only until the next time I power cycle it. Sometimes it will power cycle on and off, but for sure, if it sits, the next time I fire it up, it shows me the white screen. Ouftimazette, the battery is right next to the SD card slot. Maybe this is related. I need to take it apart to find out I guess…..

Same issue with mine, it has been a good camera up until now, but now the screen is generally white. Pictures are still good when I download to the camera, but hard to take them when you can't see or frame what you are taking. It will occasionally come back on, but 9 times out of 10 it is white. :-(
Panasonic should recall and do free repairs.... wishful thinking!

Hello,
I have the same “white display” problem with mine. BUT this happens only with a SD card in. When I remove it, the display operates normally, and the camera works like a charm (but on its own very small memory).
I tried another (brand new and tested) SD card, but the problem remains the same.
The SD slot contacts looks ok, tough…
Any idea? Thank you…
