I have been trying for almost an hour and cannot find my mail icon. And I have important e-mails to send on my Gmail. I am fed up with this

supposedly easy way to solve this problem irajay9@gmail.com. Two months ago in Canada, I was blocked from using my computer because Gmail would not recognize my password or the correct answers to my

identity questions.

Thanks a lot. These things should not be happening.

Very easy!

Open the Application folder and locate your Mail application you want (in case you have more than one) then select it hold your mouse button and drag it to the dock where you want it. Wait a sec so it knows that is what you want and it will place the dock alias there (won't physically move the app or alter it).

Can you find your "Applications" folder on your hard drive? If so, go in there and find the Mail application icon (Mail.app). Drag that icon to your dock. This should put it back. If you are using another mail program, drag that app instead.

Just in case you find this thread but can't find your mail app icon, try this:

My mail icon was not in the applications folder, so I did a search on my finder. I typed in "mail" and then found all my individual email files. I still couldn't find the mail app, so I clicked on a random email file and my computer automatically opened the mail app to open the email. I then saved it to my dock again.

Periodically, when I close it, it disappears from my Dock. I just run it again, it shows up somewhere else on the dock, and I move it back.

I run it from Spotlight, but could run it from applications or on some keyboards there's a key that shows all of your apps on the screen, from which you can find mail, or type in "m" or "ma" or "mai" or "mail" to get the app.

Sounds like the drive needs some TLC. Using a bootable external drive boot up your system off of it, then run disk utility to repair permissions and the disk. Make sure you've made a backup just in case!

I just had the same problem

first my doc would disappear and only show up when I had the mouse over it

I checked preferences - Automatically Hide and Show the Dock was unchecked

I checked it.. then unchecked it...

so now the dock stays visible

but Mail disappeared

I opened the program... then left clicked and said KEEP in DOCK

now it is gone again

... the Dock seems to have some new *features* hope Apple fixes them as some would call them bugs!

I don't know what you mean by applications folder. What do you mean by applications folder?

Think how a file cabinet works... You have your bills & letters which need to be gathered together under some method of order. Your drive is setup in the same manner. A folder is a collection of things like: applications, your written documents, pictures & videos you created or ones your family share. As well as things you buy like: music, movies & TV shows.

If you go to the dock you'll see an Icon when you pass over it were the text will tell you its 'Application' this is the application folder. When you open it you'll need to go to the bottom an click on 'Open in Finder' so you can then locate your mail program (or other application) and then drag it to the dock to make it easier to find.

@Philauxt - Can you explain what happened. Most of the time the application icon on the dock gets lost. Is that what happened to you? Did you try searching for the app called Mail? Once you find it you can paste it back onto the dock as I explained.
