kim, you did not tell us which lights are red but I bet it is sections 1, 3, and 4 that are flashing red. This would be a "General Hardware Failure" Try this :"Check the secondary Error Code:
Try restarting the console.
If restarting the console does not resolve the behavior, follow these steps:
Turn the console off.
Unplug all the power and AV cables from the console.
Unplug the power cord from the wall socket.
Firmly reconnect all the cables.
Turn on the console.
If these steps do not resolve the behavior, turn the console off, remove the hard drive, and then turn on the console. If the 3x Red LED error light is no longer displayed, turn the console off, re-attach the hard drive, and then turn on the console.
Also examine the lights on the power supply. When you turn on the console, the power supply light should illuminate green even if the three lights on the RoL flash red." from here. If this did not resolve anything, it is time to either fix it yourself with these guides and parts, or have the motherboard professional reballed. Hope this helps, good luck.

This does not work as a permanent solution. I unplugged my xbox when it got red ring of death and it only turned on twice.
@alberteins19091 you are absolutely right. 10 years and a few Microsoft exposes later, we know now that the bigger issue with that is your GPU processor. It is a flip chip design and the issue could be the solder bumps between the IC and the substrate..
Here is a very "quick and dirty" explanation of what causes most of the RROD. It is not always a failure of the solder balls which connect the Flip Chip BGA package to the motherboard. It does happen and you can see why on hereMore commonly however is that the failure is due to the chip design itself. There are solder "bumps" that actually connect the die to the substrate to make the chip complete. If these bumps fail, the die does no longer make contact with the substrate and thus no contact with the circuit board. The chip has failed. This problem occured to me suddenly today during a thunderstorm causing voltage to be incosistent.I tried restarting the console sometimes with no result. Afterwards i checked the power supply and its led was RED , i detached its plug from the socket and attached it again , the led became orange and once powering the console up , it became green and the xbox run as usual.

Mine also red-ringed. The same problem. Three of the four LEDs are lighting up red, however I suspect it has been “fixed” before by someone else. And it happened just today. How I figured the fact that it was “fixed” by someone else?
It has opening marks on the back already.
