Why does my 3ds freeze when accidentally bumping it on something?

While playing with my 3ds, if I move it even a slight bit, it'll freeze up, all sound will become silent, and it'll become unresponsive to all buttons aside from the C stick and power button. If I force power-off the 3ds, it'll turn off like normal, and then once I turn it back on it usually works just fine as well (though, this isn't always the case. I've turned it off and on and it'll still be unresponsive). This issue is reoccurring and I've tried to fix it but I'm not quite sure what the problem is.
