I have a 2016 27" iMac.  Hardly used this machine at all.  Suspiciously, immediately after a software update, it stopped functioning - won't even boot up.  Apple says its a hardware issue.  I don't see how.  But anyway, I now have a very expensive paperweight.

I asked apple if I can at least use it as an external screen and they said no - not this model (I don't get it).

Any workarounds?  Seems like such a waste for a nice retina display.
