The Brother TZe labelers are sensitive to the batteries used - I know this all too well, given I have a D400 and a factory refurb D610BT I bought now to beat the tariffs, given they are in the US and refurbished here. You need to use a good battery like Energizer or NiMh rechargeable like Eneloops; otherwise, they do not take well to cheap no-name/store brand batteries. If you are using a good battery, check the terminals for corrosion, and if you see any, clean them with a wire brush. That's where I would start.

If it persists, take the unit apart and look for any wiring issues or internal corrosion.
