Not really, if you take the battery out the systems SMC logic will go into CPU Safe Mode lowering the CPU’s clocking and pump up the fans.
I think you’re worrying a bit too much, if you take it out putting a new one in isn’t much more. Follow the guide here [guide|90276] and for $85 USD you can get a good replacement [product|IF117-046] with the tools which are needed! If you have what you need $77 for the battery alone.

I’m sure you can do it, more so as you stated the system is on its second battery so I often find the replacement are much easier to replace than the original as Apple really glues them in.
