How to fix a Trackpad with no click function? (2009-2015)

I have an issue with a 2009 MBP A1278 the trackpad has no click function.
It is a total fresh install (Dosdude Catalina Patch) on a Samsung EVO 840 SSD but I know it is not an issue with the patcher software. I have swapped over 2 known working trackpads but there is no change. Everything is spotless clean. Their are no issues with the KB or other internal connections or components as everything is running very smoothly. I can only assume it is something with the silver adjuster on the casing as that is the only thing that hasn't been replaced as I don't think that can be the problem? The click function was working fine AFAIK the last time I used the machine, The trackpad has a good feel and a nice click tap sound. Asking the expert @danj on any suggestions?
