The issue is the generation of Intel chips. I really don’t see any benefit if you already have an i7 chip and if you have an i5 then getting to an i7 would be what I would do. Keep in mind the needed micro code is held in the EFI so only the CPU series Apple has used is within the EFI.

Between being a Broadwell series as well as most have a higher TDP which would be to high for the system you really can’t use them.
