What is the orientation of the replacement LVDS display cable?

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

I have an early 2014 Macbook Air that had a flaky display so I purchased the replacement display cable ([product|IF188-118]) and replaced it using the guides. However the replacement cable does not have any markings on the main body end to indicate which side should be "up". The original cable has a white dot on one side which appears to be the bottom, and a QR code on the handle/tag which also appears to be on the underside.

When I boot the laptop I get a blue screen with vertical lines. A secondary display works but without access to the main display I can't login.

I considered turning the connector over and trying the other orientation, as it appears to fit either way, but I don't want to let the magic smoke out.

Is there a way to determine which way this cable should be connected? And is it safe to connect it the "wrong" way?

Thanks
