The lid close/open is sensed via a magnet and a Hall sensor which detects the magnet flux of the magnet.

So if I understand correctly the open is not sensed, but the close is. The sensor is located on the backside of the logic board it’s mounted on a small stand-off as marked here n Red

So compare your logic board to the images in Steps 15 & 16 in this guide [guide|72415] which is the same.
So do you see any visible damage along the boards edge both sides as I’ve seen a deep tool insertion damages things.
