If you’ve ever tried pealing a label off a container there is a bit of pull you need to slowly lift the label off keeping it intact. That same process is what you need to lift the keyboard backlight plate.

Once you get it off you’ll need to locate the screws and you will need to snap off the plastic rivet’s. Sadly, you’ll kill it in the process!
So far finding the proper keyboard for this series I have yet to find it!
Maybe you’ll need to just go for the upper case [product|IF123-168-2
As far as the battery you shouldn’t need to pull it, but if you do locate the pull tabs Apple finely used them on the MacBooks! They are hard to find reference the MacBook Pro service manual which Apple offers in their self repair page.
