Why are there vertical black lines after an LCD repair?

Hello, I have replaced the LCD screen for my Huawei p20 pro. The phone turns on fine but there is a thick black vertical line running down the display screen.
I have checked the connection which is secure and hope I haven't damaged the flex cable as I was super careful! Is there anything else I can do?
