iPad Mini stuck at black screen, and shows garbage display

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

A friend asked me to diagnose his iPad. My friend says it looks like it turned off and it showed garbage display before turning off, then it shows a black screen. When pressing the lock button, I can see the backlight turn on and off, but nothing is displayed on the screen. I also noticed that the left part of screen is slightly lifted, I think its due to a battery swelling. Is the display broken because of the swelling battery?

+Update: I was able to turn the iPad on again with the lock screen showing up, but after I pressed the lock button, it showed garbage display, then went black screen again. I was not able to let it go to lock screen again, I can only see the backlight turn on or off if I press the lock button.
