Hey @danj , Ive got the same issue but I never spilled anything on it. This is what happened https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253888116 can you please help me?

I bought myself a MacBook air 6,2 (mid 2013 early 2014) on auction couple days ago and when it arrived it wouldn't turn on.
After trying a few things I got it working by unplugging the battery and powering it on with the AC alone, then shut down, plug the battery again and it would work just fine. If for whatever reason you'd have to turn it off, just had to repeat all the previous steps, which is pretty annoying.
I tried pretty much everything I found on the matter to get over this issue but no luck. Until I found this video [link|https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6GuVPo2-1g|youtube.com/watch?v=f6GuVPo2-1g] - the guy says it could be the trackpad cable issue, so I bought a new one and it arrived today.
The issue was solved but my trackpad and keyboard aren't working anymore. Even if I use the old flex cable, still doesn't respond.
I couldn't reset the SMC, but I did reset PRAM, both ways, and still no luck. I also tried turning off the FileVault (which I saw in this video [link|https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raLYrHJoTrk|youtube.com/watch?v=raLYrHJoTrk] ).
I'm running out of ideas. I suppose I could downgrade the OS (Big Sur atm) but I don't think it's the issue as it was working just fine before replacing the flex cable.
External keyboard and mouse works just fine.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers

Edit1: I noticed that the top part of the trackpad gets a bit hot.

Edit2: [link|https://tinyurl.com/2p9y3zyj|inyurl.com/2p9y3zyj] the old cable has a brown spot on it, don't know if means anything.
