I doubt you have a driver issue, more likely the cable to the lid failed. Apple had a fail amount of failures of the backlight cable [https://www.ifixit.com/News/13979/apples-2018-macbook-pros-attempt-to-solve-flexgate-without-admitting-it-exists|2018 MacBook Pros Try to Solve Flexgate Without Admitting It Exists] while the cable here is not the same cable it is exactly the same mirrored on the other side (Blue marked)
