How worried should I be about hardware damage? (E6220)

When I was investigating the possibility of using an E6220 palmrest on an E6230 with a trackpad swap (which required disassembly so I can see how viable the palmrest is for a transplant), I came across this. Yikes - I don’t know how long it’s been like this!
I do not know much about the laptop beyond it being purchased as a machine for the accessories which I needed. It has always run fine, but I did not put that cable back into service, as I had a spare. Even if I did not, I would not have used it again and replaced it.
While the machine works fine, how worried should I be about hardware damage that could be serious? It hasn’t ever failed me, but I am a little worried about it seeing that damage to the flatflex now.
