It does sound like you got a defective screen.

As they say nothing ventured, nothing gained! I would try to get it repair under warranty.

If you just got it (one or two weeks from Apple directly or authorized reseller) you can call Apple and sign up for AppleCare+ which is a service contract the buys you the added protection.
