It’ll work for basic tasks, but I wouldn’t put a lot of money into it. Get a good SSD and max out the memory. Anything beyond that is probably going to cost more then the machine is worth unless it's a good enough upgrade to justify the cost. These machines are old and just aren't worth a lot.

If you are okay with the limits of an SSHD, then that will be cheaper then an SSD. I'm not a fan of them and don't recommend them because they seem kind of redundant and become slow hard drives when the NAND cache dies, but they have a place for some users who can't afford an SSD and need a bridge that offers some improvement.

If you are okay with the limits of an SSHD, then that will be cheaper than an SSD but it will still be subpar in comparison. I'm not a fan of them and have honestly had more issues than I do with a real SSD (one of them was suspect, and the 2nd had issues with the speed at 10k hours which means the NAND flash failed and you can't just disable it to bypass that). Because of my poor experience with them, I'm reluctant to try again. That said, they have a place for some users who can't afford an SSD and need a bridge that offers some improvement -- but I wouldn't trust it to last 10 years like a proper SSD.
