Hey there - I have been following this thread.  I have a 24” Mid 2007 iMac Intel Duo.
-2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 6 Gigs of Ram and a Solid State SATA Drive 500 GB hard drive I had a shop put in about 2 years ago.
+2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 6 Gigs of RAM and a SSD SATA Drive 500 GB I had a shop put in about 2 years ago.
One of the two internal fans burned out a long time ago.  I am not sure which one.
I’m running  OS X El Capitan 10.11.6  put can’t go any further than that.

I want put in a new CPU in, the Wifi and every thing mentioned to  get another couple 2-3 years out of it if I can - but computer repair shops aren’t interested in helping to upgrade it especially in this way.   I would, while I was at it replace the fan as it sounds like a new CPU will run hotter anyway.
-I am by no means a tech - is this something that I can handle doing?  I’ve only ever just replaced the ram.  I have never opened the computer up.  I am a complete beginner.   Give me an honest opinion - is this an advanced exercise?
