Lets see if we can narrow down the issue. Plugged in to your system and powered. Take flashlight and place it on the screen at an angle are you able to see your desktop icons? If you do then you know the issue is the back light driver which has failed.

You'll need to find a schematic and trace out the voltages on the logic board, most likely its gone.
