Screen issue, turns blank after pressing power button.

Hi,
I am facing an issue with my device, wherein, whenever I lock the screen, it turns black. '''I then have to press power button and somehow switch off the phone .''' The phone works as usual after boot but, the moment the screen is locked, same thing happens again. Is it a software issue or screen is damaged?
Please help.
