RAW or JPEG, RAW images are quite large so you can encounter issues with your storage media not being fast enough or even large enough. JPEG compresses the image before its saved. While it takes less space it does take some time to process. So the deeper you compress the longer it takes.
How you shoot can also effect things! There is a setting that does a burst of images! That way you can choose which one caught the right moment. In addition there is a setting the bracket so you get three (or more) images which has different exposure settings. Then you have video Vs still's
