It sounds like your device may not be charging. This could be from a bad battery, damaged charging port, or bad charging cord most likely.  You should be able to determine if it is the battery or charging cord fairly easily, the charging port may require more technical know how, but if we can determine which one is the culprit we should be able to help you find a solution.

If you have another HP laptop, see if the cord for yours will charge it (be sure they have the same tip).

Try swapping the battery with a new one. There are a [https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Compaq+Presario+CQ62-214NR+Notebook+PC|few options] on Amazon.com. Which simplifies returning it if the swap does not resolve the issue.

If it's not either of those, you would want to check the charging port itself for visible physical damage. Is the plug snug and secure or does it feel loose and possibly broken...?
