How do I disconnect the 2 delicate connectors in a Time Capsule?

I'm attempting to replace the HDD in a Time Capsule (A1470). The base is removed, the T8 torx screws are out, and the larger of the 3 connectors is disconnected OK.
However I'm really struggling with the 2 smaller connectors. They look very delicate with really thin wires, and I just can't figure out how to disconnect them from the PCB. I spotted this helpful comment here:

"HOW TO REMOVE THE DELICATE CONNECTORS mentioned in tip 3 above. The big one pulls away as you would expect - along the plane of the PCB. The two smaller ones, however, pull away almost perpendicular from the PCB.
DO NOT try to pull them away as you would normally expect such connectors to come off (ie, horizontal to the PCB). " - 06/02/2015 by Feanor
I fell into the trap of assuming they were just smaller versions of the larger connector. Glad I stopped. I've taken photos and zoomed in, but still don't understand how these 2 connectors function. Can anyone offer some insight? Exactly what do I have to do to disconnect them safely?
