Thie upgraded battery works in the 2009 model. This is because the connector is the same and the screw mounts are the same. The problem is finding it is not easy, since Apple does not make it easy to source parts without paying them to install them. You will have to look at sites who risk it by selling OEM Apple parts or look at quality aftermarket batteries.

At this point, it will be easier since it has been confirmed the high capacity battery is compatible with the 2010-present MacBook Pro then it was in 2010.

You need to source this battery out elsewhere. Apple will not upgrade the battery for you, or sell it to you. iFixit should sell the battery otherwise check Welovemacs. They sell the Apple OEM battery. Don't use eBay, since OEM is associated with counterfit or factory reject for Apple. You can't quickly remove it if it fails, so use a good battery.

This will work. The connectors are the same on the 10 hour battery as the old one. This should be compatible with the laptop. The battery style is the same.

Don't get it on eBay. OEM means fake on eBay and any non OEM tends to fail quickly, kill the computer or bulge. They don't last. You want a quality battery to do this.

I have and it does work(am ready to swap batteries on my early 2009 unibody too to get 9-10 hours)

it looks like they all use the same style battery, so go right at it with the connector being the same on 3 of the 4 13'' unibodys having the same connector

you cannot buy these batteries from apple, they won't do this(even if they did this they would give you the matching battery), but iFixit sells it, and so does eBay, shop around
