home button not working after front panel replaced

crwdns2934249:0crwdne2934249:0:

Okay, two issues really: the home button is not apparently working. and the screen is acting funky. My LCD wouldn't light after replacing a shattered front panel (used the fixit kit and guide) so I removed the new front panel and reseated the connections for the LCD cable and the digitizer cable. LCD still dead so I followed the advice posted elsewhere on this site for a hard reset which worked, but touch panel was acting funky so I did a restore, then a reset (yes it was backed up first). Now, it seems the home button doesn't work, and there may be dead spots on my digitizer since I can only select the lower WiFi network displayed and not the upper, and I can't get it to respond to either button on the warning box that appears lower on the screen. One stupid question before I tear the cover off again: is there a piece of tape over the home button area I didn't remove that would be blocking it? I don't remember one, but I would hate to replace the home button ribbon connector if that could be it (then again, either way I have to pry the front panel off again). And is this clear evidence I've damaged the digitizer cable (I was very careful, even preserved the WiFi antenna)? Also, the digitizer activates the LCD, and sometimes seems to respond as if I had pressed the home button, when I touch the bottom border of the iPad screen (the black area) which it never did before.
