Sounds like your disk is not setup with ''GUID'' or your boot partition is not formatted with ''Mac OS Extended (Journaled)''.

Sorry to say you'll need to use OS-X Disk Utility and redo the entire drive. Of course make sure you have a backup of your important data first.
