The Blu-ray Disc player may display Cannot operate this disk or No Disc Error.
Disk Compatibility

Blu-ray disc and DVD disc all come with a region code. Make sure that the region code matches the region code of the Blu-ray player. The region codes for Blu-ray disc and DVD disc
Try a different disc with similar specifications as the disc that was not originally working.
If you do not have a second disc, try a different Blu-ray player.
A disk may not work if a recording has not been properly finalized on a different player or disk recorder
In order to use a 3D Blu-ray disc movie playback, a Hi-speed HDMI cable for the disc to properly run
Disk Condition
If the portion of the disc tray where the disc sits is dirty, wipe the tray down using a soft dry cloth before placing the disc back on the tray to be tested again.
If there is anything along the lines of fingerprints, stains, or dust on the side of the disc that the blu-ray player reads from, the disk needs to clean. To clean the disk, use a soft dry cloth and wipe in a circular path around the disc to clean it.
Parental Control Settings
Some settings can prevent certain disc from playing so make sure that setting is set to OFF

Wrong Input
- Your TV could simply be on the wrong input setting -- input 1 instead of 2 for exmaple
- Press the input button on the TV remote to check which one you are on
- Check which HDMI number the player is connected to
Loose HDMI COnnection
Maybe you didn't plug the cable in fully. Check it to see if the cable is plugged in completely on both ends (the player and TV sides).
The cable itself could have come out on one end, so it is only plugged into say only the player or only the TV.
The cable could be plugged into the wrong slot on the player. There are two (2) spots, video+audio out, and just audio out. Check that you are in the video+audio.
Bad HDMI cable
Maybe the cable you are using is defective.
Try switching the cable ends around, this may sound dumb, but it can work.
Try to use a cable that you know is working, maybe from a cable box or game console to confirm.
Bad HDMI jack
There is a chance that an HDMI port on one of the devices is bad.
The TV's HDMI jack that you are using could be bad, try switching into a port you know works. If this is the case, and you have extra jacks, you should be okay. If you don't have extra ones, I suggest calling the manufacturer customer care about this issue.
There is a chance the HDMI port on the player itself is bad. If this is the case, call SONY, or whomever you may have purchased the player from if you have a warranty. You could also replace the HDMI jack.
System will not power on
You press the power button but the system remains powered off.
Loose Power Connection
Make sure the cord is firmly pushed into the device.
Make sure the receptacle end of the cord is firmly pushed into the outlet.
Wait 10 seconds after plugging the device in to turn it on.
Make sure the outlet itself has power.
Try a different outlet.
How to Power on Device
The power button is located on the front right side of the player or try turning on the device from the remote. If the device powers on through the remote but not the player's ON button, then the ON button needs to be replaced. If the device powers on from the ON button but not the remote then troubleshoot the remote.
REMOTE:
1: Make sure nothing is blocking the infrared (IR) sensor on the player.
2: Replace the batteries on the remote
HDMI:
If a TV is connected to the player with an HDMI cable disconnect the cable from the player. Press the ON button. Turn off HDMI control from the system settings menu.
Try a different HDMI cable.
Bad or Faulty Power Board
There is a possibility that something on the power board of the system has gone bad. A capacitor or one of the traces could have fried, or something along those lines.
If you smell something burning or burnt coming from the player, unplug it immediately. This is a sure indication of the power board being bad.
If this is the case, you will have to have it replaced. Thankfully it is all on a big PCB, and we have a [guide that you can follow].
Files will not play from USB device
You attempt to play a video file from a USB device but it will not play.
Loose Device Connection
Check the device and make sure it is plugged into the jack completely. Pull it out and plug it back in if needed
Device Needs Power
If the device requires a power-on, make sure to turn it on.
Wrong Media File Type
While the UBP-UX80 supports a wide array of media file types theres a chance that you are using one that is incompatible. Here is a list of compatible ones from Sony's user manual:
Wrong Drive File System
There is a chance th USB drive is not formatted to the correct file system, this being FAT32.
- To check if it is on the correct file system, plug the USB into a computer, right click the device in the "file explorer," click properties, then look for the file system type. If it's not "FAT32" then you need to format it.
- To format, right click the drive, click format, set file system to FAT32, and click "ok."
- NOTE: THIS WILL DELETE ALL FILES ON THE DRIVE! IF YOU WANT TO SAVE ANY, COPY THEM SOMEWHERE FOR TRANSFER AFTER THE FORMATTING!
Corrupt Files
Attempt to play a different file. If it works, then the one you want to use could be corrupt. If it is corrupt, then you will have to reinstall it.
Worst Case
At the worst case, if nothing works, then you may have a bad USB port on your device, and will need to have it replaced via warranty or your own hands.
Disk Freezes
In the middle of streaming a movie or video, it suddenly hiccups, skips, or stops playing.
Dirty or Damaged Disk
Inspect the disk to see if it is clean.
- To clean the disk, clean it using a microfiber cloth and some disk or class cleaner, wiping in an up and down pattern not a circular one.
- Make sure there are no permenant scratches or rings found on the disk, these can happen if the player is moved while a disk is playing.
- If there is a peremant ring on the disk, then it will not play correctly and will need to be replaced or resurfaced.
Outdated Firmware
Where this player is from 2018 and has Wi-Fi integration with YouTube, Netflix, etc., Sony had/has firmware updates for it so that the system can run everything smoothly. For updating firmware visit Sony's support page and find the right firmware version for you.
Even though this is the most common issue, there are few known fixes to it. Most of the solutions lead toward outdated firmware, a bad disc, or plain bad luck. A lot of people tend to say that it irons out after a little bit, but there is no real rhyme or reason to it.
