If your Sony SRS-XG300 speaker is powered on but no sound is being emitted, follow this page for solutions.
Bluetooth Connection Failure
Is the source device connected to your speaker? Examples of source devices consist of cellular devices, tablets, watches, desktop computers, laptops, etc. Bluetooth connection failure on a speaker can appear as no sound. To ensure your source device is connected to the speaker, complete the following steps:
- Go to Settings on the source device
- Click on the Bluetooth tab
- Make sure Bluetooth icon is on:
- On the speaker, check for flashing from the Bluetooth indicator, showing the speaker is ready to pair
- On your source device, click on the option for Sony SRS-XG300 to connect
- The Bluetooth indicator on the speaker will stop flashing and remain lit, indicating a device has been connected
Other devices overtaking connection
Are you having trouble connecting to the speaker? There may be device interference. It is important that any previously connected devices are offline, to not overtake the connection.
To avoid interference, make sure other devices have their Bluetooth switched off. This will ensure that the speaker has no other option to connect with. Previous source devices can ‘forget’ the speaker and easily reconnect when needed. To forget a device:
- Open the Settings App on your device
- Select the Bluetooth tab
- Select the device currently connected
- Scroll to the bottom and find “Forget Device”
- Select the option to disconnect
Multiple devices can try to connect to a speaker at a time, making it difficult to connect. Your source device does not recognize when another connection is in progress. Before attempting to connect to the speaker, make sure no other source device is trying to connect.
Mismatched Volume Levels
Is the volume on the speaker and the source device turned up to a reasonable volume? When there is no audio, the volume could be too low on either or both devices. Find the buttons to control the volume on the speaker’s button board. The + button increases the volume, while the – button decreases the volume.
On the source device, you can adjust the volume using the designated buttons. There may also be a ‘task bar’ with a speaker icon for the volume depending on the device.
Also, connecting the speaker to a computer or tablet with old tabs playing muted audio can prevent audio output. Similarly, on mobile devices, open apps can interrupt audio output. To clear any open apps from the past, follow these steps:
- Unlock your device
- Swipe from the bottom of the device to the top
- Put your finger on one of the open apps and swipe up to close
Damaged Speaker
Physical damage to the buttons or the speakers inside the SRS-XG300 can cause no audio output. Moisture, extreme temperatures, or physical impact can damage parts inside the speaker. To assess the condition of the speaker, review the following components:
- Are the buttons working properly? Damage to the button board on the speaker can cause incorrect volume settings and no audio. Excessive dust, dirt, and other debris can also prevent the buttons from functioning correctly.
- Did the device get wet? Speakers are not designed to withstand a lot of moisture or water. Specifically, metal parts inside of the speaker can easily rust causing complete speaker failure.
- The speaker may be having trouble charging. Charging issues can lead to the speaker running out of battery quickly, in which case, you may be dealing with a dead speaker.
