If your Sony SRS-XG300 Bluetooth speaker is producing distorted sound, follow along with these instructions to improve your speaker's sound quality.
Unfit Device Location
Are you within range of the Bluetooth speaker? There is a limit on the distance between the source device you want to connect and the speaker. Too much distance between devices may break or interrupt the connection. As a result, the audio will sound distorted. Hold the device you want to connect to the speaker, within 30 meters of the speaker.
Keeping a close distance between devices ensures a stronger, better connection. Devices that are too far apart put a strain on the connection and affect the sound quality. When connecting a device to the speaker, it is important to stay nearby while in use. Tips for effective use:
- If you are with a group of people, connect the device of the person who is least likely to move around
- Leave your device with the speaker
Apps or Other Device Obstruction
Is there outside audio cutting through your speaker when you are trying to use it? Other apps that are already open can play multiple audios at once. Make sure to clear apps you are not using so the only audio you want plays through the speaker. To clear out apps:
- Unlock your device
- Swipe from the bottom of the device to the top
- Put your finger on one of the open apps and swipe up to close
Devices that have Bluetooth can overlap connections if Bluetooth is on. To resolve this, make sure other devices within range do not have their Bluetooth setting on. Only the device you want to connect to the speaker should have Bluetooth on.
How far is the speaker from the listener? Are there physical barriers between the speaker and the connecting device? Speakers have a high-volume range and project audio through radio waves. However, physical barriers can make the noise sound muffled or absorb radio waves. To prevent interruptions, move the speaker closer to you with nothing blocking it.
Excessive Volume Settings
Is the volume affecting the quality of your music? Source device or speaker volume being too loud could disrupt the quality of the output audio. If possible, the volume on your source device and speaker should not be the same.
- Check source device volume
- If the device is at maximum volume, consider keeping the speaker at a lower volume
Both your source device and speaker have volume buttons located on the outer edge of the device. You can use these to adjust the volume.
If your speaker is at maximum volume too often, there could be potential damage to the speaker itself.
Poor Quality of the Original Audio File
Does the audio cut out or does it sound static in the background? Some features and applications are too old for good playback quality. In turn, the speaker may emphasize lower quality recordings and make the music hard to listen to.
Application compatibility with your device could also be an issue. If your source device does not support the app in use, the audio could sound distorted. To ensure the best quality, make sure you have the latest version of music apps that are compatible with your device:
- Open the App Store on your device
- Select the music app being used
- If an update is needed, a pop-up will appear
- Update the app to the latest version
- Reopen the app and begin playing music
OR
- Go to your device carrier website (Apple, Android, etc.)
- Look up the supported applications for the company. If the information is unavailable:
- Find information on the internet or,
- Open the specific application in the App Store for more information.
