Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 Screen is Blank or Unresponsive
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 screen does not respond to touch actions or remains black.
Software Failure
If the device is experiencing a software failure, a soft restart can often solve the problem.
- Press and hold the power and volume button down for 10-15 seconds. The screen should power off indicating a restart.
Broken Charging Cord
If the charging cord is broken, your device will be unable to charge and might be out of battery.
- If you have a second Samsung charging cord, try using that to charge the tablet. If you do not have a second Samsung charging cord, plug in a different device and see if that device can charge.
Broken Charging Port (No Charge)
The Galaxy Tab A8 uses any standard USB Type-C charger. The charging port itself is a USB Type-C 2.0 port.
- If no pins appear to be broken on the inside of the charging port, cleaning out the charging port itself may return the device to a functional state. Something non-metallic is best suited for the job, as metal pieces may detach/break pins in the charging port. Compressed air may dislodge loose debris, however stubborn debris may require a non-metallic item to remove, such as a wooden toothpick. Care is advised in the latter scenario, as breaking a toothpick inside the charging port may further damage/block the port.
- If debris has been ruled out as the cause, it may warrant replacement of the charger/charging port. If a brand new charger isn’t providing sufficient charge after debris has been removed, the charging port itself is likely the cause. There are multiple DIY replacement kits available on popular websites such as Amazon, in which case the above specified charging port will suffice to replace the old port.
Screen Protector Interference
Certain screen protectors can sometimes interfere with touch screen capabilities.
- Carefully remove the screen protector and clean the screen. Before introducing a new screen protector, make sure there isn’t any dust or dirt on the screen.
Needs Updates
Sometimes the screen may not function properly if the device software/firmware is not up to date.
- If you cannot navigate to check for updates through the touch screen feature, connect the device to a computer or monitor and check for updates that way.
