Roborock Q5 Troubleshooting
The Roborock Q5 is a robot vacuum cleaner. Released in April 2022.
Unable to connect the robot to WiFi
The Roborock Q5 won't connect to WiFi or keeps losing WiFi connection.
WiFi signal is poor, and Roborock is too far away
WiFi signal may be poor, which causes the Roborock to disconnect.
- Move the Roborock closer to the WiFi router or an area with good WiFi reception, and the device should automatically reconnect.
- If the device does not auto-connect, restart your Roborock- remove the device from the charging station, then press and hold the power button for several seconds.
- Once the device powers off, press and hold the power button again to turn the device on.
- Download the latest mobile app version and re-enter WiFi information to reconnect the Roborock.
WiFi is disabled
WiFi may be turned off, or the WiFi router has an abnormal internet connection.
- Refer to your router manual and reset your WiFi router.
- Ensure you have downloaded the latest version of the Roborock mobile app.
- Once the WiFi has been reset and is working, try connecting your Roborock to the WiFi again.
WiFi on the Roborock needs to be reset.
The Roborock may need a WiFi reset before connecting to your current router.
- Press the home and power buttons until you hear the "Resetting WiFi" voice alert.
- The reset is complete when the WiFi indicator light flashes blue slowly.
- The robot will then wait for a connection.
- Enter new WiFi credentials and wait for Roborock to connect.
WiFi settings are not compatible with the Roborock
The Roborock Q5 requires connection to a WiFi sign that transmits at 2.4GHz; WiFi transmission at 2.4GHz provides internet to a larger area, which allows the device to stay connected as it moves away from the router.
- Refer to your router manual to see if it supports transmission at 2 4GHz or what steps you need to take to customize your router settings to meet the transmission requirements.
- For further assistance, contact Roborock customer service for support.
Noise during cleaning
To address any noise-related issues, consider the following troubleshooting steps:
A clog in the suction inlet
The Roborock could be making noise due to a suction clog.
- Begin by removing the dust collector and ensuring the suction inlet is clean; check the alignment of the filters.
- Take the dust collector, holding it upright with the bumper facing up and the suction "hole" directed downwards. Shake out any debris lodged in the suction fans inside the machine.
- Reassemble the dust collector correctly.
Debris buildup in the wheels or brush guard
If there is debris buildup on the wheels or brush guard, this can cause the robot to become noisy.
- Thoroughly clean the brushes and wheels.
- Temporarily remove the brush guard and rolling brush. Operate the vacuum without these parts to determine if the noise persists.
- Check for any clicking sounds when manually spinning the side brushes. If present, refer to this guide for further troubleshooting.
Suction level
Be aware that noise levels may vary between suction levels.
- Experiment by cycling through the suction levels, and consider adjusting to Standard Suction for a comparative evaluation.
The robot is not returning to the charging dock
The Roborock is having issues with getting back to the dock.
Navigation issues
The Roborock may not return to its charging dock due to navigation issues, such as a misaligned or dirty sensor, or a problem with the charging dock itself, like a loose connection or a software glitch.
- Restart the Roborock and the charging dock.
- Clean the sensors and charging contacts on the robot.
- Ensure the power cord for the charging is securely plugged in.
- Check the Roborock app for software updates for the Roborock and the charging dock.
- Reset the Roborock's navigation by moving it to a new location and guiding it back to the dock.
Low battery
The Roborock may not be returning to its charging dock due to a low battery level or a faulty charging system.
- Check the Roborock's battery level and charge it if necessary.
- Ensure the charging dock is functioning correctly by testing it with another device.
- Clean the charging contacts and ensure they are free of debris.
- If the issue persists, replace the faulty charging system.
Incorrect map
Incorrect or outdated mapping data may be the issue.
- Update the Roborock's mapping data to the latest version.
Interference
Interference from other devices or obstacles can block the robot from the dock.
- Move the Roborock and charging dock away from other devices and obstacles.
Damaged sensors
Faulty or damaged sensors can prevent the Roborock from returning to the charging dock.
- Check sensors for damage or debris, and clean the sensors with a damp cloth.
- If sensors are damaged, follow this guide to replace them.
The robot will not power on
Try the following to address any issues regarding your Roborock Q5 not powering on:
Docking station problems
There may be an issue with the docking station.
- Check the power indicator light turns on and that both ends of the power cable are correctly connected.
- If the contacts on the station are dirty, wipe them off with a dry cloth.
Unit charging problems
- Only use the robot within the range of 4-40°C (39-104°F).
- Make sure the unit is contacting charging points on the dock.
- If the unit charging contacts are dirty, wipe them with a dry cloth.
Battery disconnect in transit
- If your Roborock Q5 is brand new and you have trouble powering on, follow this guide to uninstall and reinstall the battery.
Software issue
Another solution would be to complete a factory reset.
- Hold the home icon button for 3-5 seconds.
- Use a pin to press the reset button while holding the home button; the lights in the power and home button will go out.
- Hold the home button for 5 seconds until the power button blinks and you hear the "Restoring factory settings" voice prompt; release the home button.
- Notice:
- Factory reset will disconnect RoboVac from WiFi. Please re-add it after the factory default restore.
- Factory reset will also restore RoboVac's firmware version to the original one when it was made in the factory. After the factory default restores, you can go to RoboVac's general settings and check for updates to upgrade its firmware to the latest one.
- Factory reset will delete all your settings on the device, like scheduled cleaning.
- Factory reset will delete every cleaning log, including every cleaning's duration, size, and map. But the total duration, total times of cleaning, and total size will still be kept there.
Malfunctioning parts
If none of the solutions above solve your problem, your system may have dead components.
- Try replacing the charging dock.
- Try replacing the battery following this guide
The robot is not cleaning certain spots
The robot is missing certain areas when cleaning.
The wall/cliff sensors are dirty
Missed areas and abnormal cleaning paths may be caused by dirt on the wall sensors. This issue may trigger the Error 4 or Error 26 alert.
- Locate all device sensors– the wall sensor is on the right side of the device, and the four cliff sensors are under the front of the robot.
- Check all sensors for dirt; remove any obstructions from the sensors.
- Use a damp cloth to clean sensors, removing debris and buildup.
- To prevent this issue from recurring, clean the robot's sensors once a week.
- you could also try replacing the lidar sensor using the guide.
The main brush is jammed
The main brush assembly may be blocked.
- Turn over the robot and press the latches to remove the main brush cover.
- Pull out the main brush.
- Remove the main brush bearing.
- Carefully use the main brush cleaning tool to remove any hair entangled around the main brush.
- If a large amount of hair or hair is tightly entangled, remove it carefully to avoid damage to the main brush.
- After removing the tangled hair or dirt at the main brush, reinstall the brush bearing and press on the main brush cover to lock it in place.
- If still having issues follow this guide to remove the guide brush assembly.
