Amazon Alexa isn't responding
Amazon Alexa doesn't respond to voice commands
Amazon Alexa is turned off
Try pressing the button directly below “VOL” (lowest button on the top panel), this is the Amazon Alexa button and should bring up the Alexa feature. The light ring should turn a solid blue with a cyan segment appearing closest to you when you start talking. Once you see the light corresponding to Alexa, give a simple voice command to see if it is working.
Microphone is off
When the microphone is turned off, Alexa won't respond to voice commands, so try pressing the microphone mute button and then give a simple voice command. An indicator that the microphone might be off would be the light ring lit up red.
Other things to try
- Check the Wi-Fi connection, Alexa may not function properly without Wi-Fi connection.
- Check your Amazon Alexa app to see if there are any updates waiting.
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting your phone from the speaker.
- Power off the speaker and turn it back on after 30 seconds. A hard reboot might do the job.
- Delete and re-download the Amazon Alexa app and reconnect to your speaker.
- Consider where the speaker is placed, if it is near a fan or air vent, there may be some noise interfering with the microphone, so try moving it to a different spot.
Wi-Fi not connecting
The speaker isn't connecting to the Wi-Fi or connects, but cannot maintain the connection.
Speaker is too far away
Ensure your speaker is close enough to the Wi-Fi router or away from anything that may cause interference, such as microwaves or baby monitors.
Incorrect Wi-Fi password
If the Wi-Fi is password protected, double check your password through the app or try disconnecting and reconnecting after 30 seconds.
Router issues
Check your router to make sure the network is on and working. Turn off your router for 30 seconds, then turn it back on. This resets your router and disconnects all devices on the Wi-Fi.
Broken Wi-Fi module
If the device can connect to the Wi-Fi, however cannot maintain the connection, the Wi-Fi card may be faulty and need replacement.
Wi-Fi network issues
Some public Wi-Fi networks (e.g. airports or college campuses) are not compatible with this device.
Audio distortion
The audio sounds muffled, too high, too bass heavy or otherwise distorted.
Plastic film still on speaker
If the speaker sounds muffled, check first to see that you have removed all plastic wrap and packaging off of the speaker.
Volume is too high or too low
If the speaker’s volume is too high or too low, the sound may not come out at the best quality. To lower or raise the volume, you can press the “-” or “+” buttons respectively, next to the word “VOL” at the top of the speaker.
Amazon Alexa and Play-Fi apps not up to date
Alexa works through the cloud, and Amazon may make adjustments to sound or functionality through updates. If there are updates available, it may change the sound of the speaker.
Faulty circuitry
If audio distortion persists, the speaker may have a problem with its circuitry inside the speaker, and you may need to have it replaced.
Faulty tweeter
If the bass of the music sounds too heavy even without the volume at max, you may need to replace or repair the tweeters inside the speaker.
Faulty woofers
If the pitch of the speaker sounds too high, there may be no bass being reflected, which may result from a faulty woofer that needs to be repaired or replaced.
Audio not playing
No sound can be heard even though it should be playing
Low speaker volume
Press on the “+” button on the top of the speaker next to “VOL” a couple of times to ensure that the volume on the speaker is not too low.
Low device volume
Check the volume on the connected cell phone or other device to make sure that the volume is not too low. Try using the buttons or settings on the device to change the volume.
Loose connection
If you are using the auxiliary cord to play audio from another device, make sure that the device is securely connected to the speaker through the auxiliary cord. Disconnect and reconnect the cord to ensure that it is properly connected.
Wi-Fi connection
Music capabilities and Alexa will not work unless the speaker is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Setup the Wi-Fi by holding the Wi-Fi button on the back of the speaker for 8 seconds.
