Nintendo Super Famicom SHVC-001 Troubleshooting
The Super Famicom is the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, also known as the Super NES, SNES or Super Nintendo. It first came out in November 1990 in Japan and has a distinct form factor from the North American version.
Cartridge Not Reading
The system starts but the game does not boot up.
Dirty Cartridge
The game may have become dirty and requires cleaning. Nintendo suggests that you don't blow on it. Instead, apply rubbing alcohol and let it dry before reinserting.
Dirty Port
Try cleaning the port on your Super Nintendo system. Before turning it on, make sure it's completely dry.
Controller Not Working
The system does not recognize controller input.
Broken Controller
If the controller stops working, consider testing another working controller; if it works, the problem is with the controller, which will need to be replaced.
Broken Controller Port
However, if the controller is not working, the controller port may need to be replaced.
Device Not Turning On
Problems related to supplying power to the Super Nintendo.
Power Cable
The power cable may not have a good connection; clean it with rubbing alcohol, dry it, and try again. The wire may also have deteriorated and need to be replaced.
Power Switch
The power switch may become unplugged and need to be reconnected. In the worst-case scenario, it may need to be replaced.
Distorted Audio
Trouble with clear hearing from the device.
Dried Capacitors
If the audio is fluctuating, you may have dry capacitors that need to be replaced.
Audio Imbalance
If the audio is imbalanced, you need to isolate one of the Vref pins, connect it to the positive lead of a capacitor, and then wire the negative lead to the ground. A guide for this can be found here.
Distorted Images
The display is black or unclear.
Bad Power Supply
Check that the cables are properly attached to their appropriate ports. If that doesn't work, your video cable may have run out and you will need to purchase a replacement.
Dried Capacitors
If the video is fading, you may have dry capacitors that need to be replaced.
