The Watch Doesn’t Charge
There is no indication of the watching charging or being able to hold a charge.
Charging pins may be blocked or broken
If your device is not charging while on the charging dock, check the charging pins located on the dock. Dust and debris can sometimes collect around these pins, preventing the dock from properly connecting with your device. Try cleaning the charging pins with a soft-bristled brush. If the device still does not charge, a new charging dock may be needed, or the battery may need to be replaced.
USB-C cord may have a short or a dirty port
Check the charging cord if the device is not charging properly. The charging chord might malfunction if the USB port is dirty; try cleaning the port with a soft-bristled brush. If the chord is still not working, heats up while plugged in, or has any exposed wires, the capable might have a short. In this case, the chord will need to be replaced.
The battery needs to be replaced
If the device’s battery has sustained substantial damage, it will not be able to charge properly and will need to be replaced.
The charging coil needs to be replaced
If the watch isn't charging and the USB port is clean, the battery is undamaged, and the charging pins are not blocked or broken the charging coil may be broken or damaged. If this is the case the charging coil will need to be replaced.
Battery Life is Ridiculously Short
The efficiency of the battery life has decreased.
The watch’s software may not be up to date
Outdated software can shorten the device’s battery life. To check for updates, go to:
“Setting” –> “About” –> "System Updates."
If you do not see an “About” section, select “Systems” then about. If system updates are not available within the “About” section, go to:
“Versions” –> “Wear Versions.”
To install an update, you will need a data connection and a minimum of 50% battery life to install the new software.
The Watch is Overcharged
Leaving the device on the charging dock for too long can lead to overcharging, which causes battery capacity loss over time. Do not leave the device on the charging dock after the battery has reached 100% charge to prevent overcharging. If overcharging has occurred, the battery will need to be replaced.
Android Wear App error
The Android Wear app may impact your watch’s battery life. You must uninstall all Android Wear apps and watch faces to fix this problem or ensure it is not the cause.
Then you will need to reset the device by going into:
"Settings" -> "Reset Device."
Re-install the Android Wear app on the device you want to pair to. Then make sure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on and select the device to pair it.
Battery has reached the end of its lifespan
Lithium-ion batteries naturally degrade over time and with use. If other troubleshooting has been exhausted, you'll have to replace the battery altogether.
Screen Freezes while the Watch is Charging
When the power button is pressed or the screen is touched, nothing changes on the screen.
Unresponsive Power Button
If the device’s touchscreen and power button are not responsive, try holding the power button for 26 seconds to power the device down. If the power button is unresponsive, it may need to be replaced.
Pixel Markings Appearing on the screen
There are dark spots on my screen or there are random cubes on my screen.
Dead Pixels
Place a small amount of pressure on the dead pixel’s location using your finger. Ensure there is no dirt or debris on the screen or your finger. Be careful not to damage the device’s screen. If this does not fix the issue, the screen might need to be replaced.
Ghost images on screen while charging
An afterimage is left on my screen after I close a picture or leave an app.
Image Retention
Leaving the device’s screen display on overnight can lead to temporary or permanent residual images on the screen- which is known as image retention. This can also happen because the watch displays the time and charge level when charging. Download the Slumber for Android Wear; if the image retention persists, you might need to replace your screen.
