The Device Will Not Power On

The device will not turn on when the power button is pressed.

Check to See if Battery is Charged

The battery for this device is rechargeable. If the device is not responding, the battery life may have depleted. Try charging the device with the device's original charger.

Check if the Battery is Faulty

If the device does not turn on after attempting to charge the battery, the battery may need to be replaced. To replace the battery, refer to Magellan Roadmate 1440 Battery Replacement Guide.

Check if the Charger is Faulty

The charger for the device may be the problem instead of the device itself. If the charger is failing to recharge the battery of the device, the charger may need to be replaced.

Check if the Power Switch is Faulty

The power switch may be broken and can easily be replaced. To replace it, follow the steps in Magellan Roadmate 1440 Power Switch Replacement Guide

Device Is Not Responding

The GPS isn't responding and/or is stuck on the same display page.

Try Restarting the Device

If the screen is frozen, you may want to restart the device. Slide the power button on the GPS to turn it off, and then slide it again to turn it back on.

Device Has No Audio

No audio is coming from the GPS.

Check if the Speaker is Faulty

The speaker may be broken or damaged and therefore will need to be replaced. To replace the speaker, refer to Magellan Roadmate 1440 Speaker Replacement Guide.

Device Loses Signals

The device may lose signal depending on the location, such as going through a tunnel or a wooded area.

Try Restarting the Device

Restarting the device can reset the signal. Try turning on and off the device by sliding the on/off button.

Device Can't Find Address

It is possible that the GPS will not be able to identify the route.

Check to See if There is An Update

New software is often released for this device through Magellan. Go to http://support.magellangps.com/support and search for Magellan Roadmate 1440 and then navigate to update the software.

my roadmate 1440 has never been used and when i go to update it, i get an error that says "insufficient space". i find that hard to believe that the first ever update wont fit on a brand new never used device
