Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Gen 3 Not Playing Sound Correctly
When trying to play audio on your ThinkPad E15 Gen 3, poor sound or no sound comes from the device. Follow these steps to identify and solve the problem.
Sound Settings are Incorrect
The laptop may have poor sound quality due to the sound settings.
- Check Volume Level: Click the speaker icon (🔊) in the bottom-right corner of the screen and ensure the volume is turned up. Make sure the speaker isn’t muted by dragging the slider to the right to turn the volume up.
- Check Output Device: Right-click the speaker icon (🔊) and select “Open Sound settings.” Under “Choose your Output device” confirm the correct audio device is selected—usually “Speakers (Realtek Audio)” or something similar. If you're using headphones or external speakers, they should be listed here as well.
Speakers are Blocked
The laptop may have poor sound quality due to the speakers being blocked internally or externally
- Check for External Blockages: Look to find the speakers output at the front of the laptop, then make sure that there is nothing, such as hair, dust, or liquid residue, lodged in the way of the speakers.
- For blockages of hair and dust, use tweezers or a rubberized pick to gently clean out the blockage.
- For blockages due to liquid residue, use cotton swabs and isopropyl alcohol (at least 70%) to gently clean out the blockage.
- Check for Internal Blockages: Flip over the laptop and remove the back panel of the device, then inspect the speakers at the front of the device to make sure nothing, such as dust, bugs, or liquid residue, is blocking the speakers.
- For internal blockages, use cotton swabs and isopropyl alcohol (at least 70%) to gently clean any affected areas.
Speakers not Connected
The laptop may have poor sound quality due to the speakers being disconnected from the laptop
- Check Speakers Connection: Flip over the laptop and remove the back panel of the device. Inspect to make sure that the speakers connector is plugged into the motherboard, on the right side of the back.
- Check for Speaker Wire Damage: Flip over the laptop and remove the back panel of the device. Inspect the speakers in order to make sure that the wires connected to the speakers are undamaged. If the wires appears to be damaged you will need to replace the speakers. [ADD LINK HERE]
Faulty Speakers
If no other steps help, the speakers may be faulty
