If your Lenovo IdeaPad 3-14IML05 has excessive fan noise, follow this troubleshooting guide for potential solutions.
Dust or Dirt In The Fans
One reason a fan may be making a lot of noise is if there is a lot of dirt or dust collected in the fan. This can cause the fan to work extra hard thus making excess noise. The dirt or dust affects the airflow for the fan. Too much dirt can block air from being able to work properly which is why the excess or funky noises can be coming from your fan. If there is dust or dirt in your fan, use a dust blower air and laptop cleaning kit to clean your fans and the internals of your laptop.
CPU Overheating
Another reason why a fan may be making a lot of noise is if the CPU (Central Processing Unit) is overheating. A fan may have to work extra hard to cool a CPU that is overheating. An overheating CPU is when the temperature of the CPU goes above its limit of what it’s supposed to reach, thus the cooling system of the computer (in this case the fan), will have to work excessively to try and cool it. To check your CPU’s temperature, you can open your BIOS (Basic input/output System) when booting your computer and the temperature will appear on the main screen. If your CPU is still overheating, you may need to replace the thermal paste.
Worn Out fan
The fan itself being faulty is another reason why the fan may be making a lot of noise. A worn-out fan includes some sort of physical damage on the fan that can cause excess noise. A fan’s blades could be damaged from the fan being worn out which can cause excess noise. If the fan is damaged or has failed, you will need to replace it.
