Lenovo IdeaPad 1-15ALC7 Not Turning On
If your Lenovo IdeaPad 1-15ALC7 does not power on and remains unresponsive when you press the power button, there may be an issue with the battery, CMOS battery, or SSD. Follow these troubleshooting steps to diagnose and resolve the problem.
1) Battery Discharged or Faulty
If the laptop battery is completely drained or failing, the device may not turn on even when plugged into a power source.
Check the Charging Light
- Plug the charger into the laptop.
- Look for a battery indicator light near the charging port:
- Solid white or amber light – The laptop is receiving power.
- No light – The charger may not be working, or the battery may be faulty.
- If no light appears, try:
- Plugging the charger into a different power outlet.
- Testing with another compatible charger, if available.
Perform a Power Reset
- Unplug the charger from the laptop.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Plug the charger back in and attempt to turn the laptop on.
Allow the Battery to Recharge
If the battery is deeply discharged, it may take time to regain enough charge to power the laptop.
- Leave the laptop plugged in for at least 15–30 minutes.
- Try turning it on again.
Replace the Battery If Needed
If the laptop still does not power on, but the charging light turns on, the battery may no longer hold a charge and needs to be replaced.
Follow our Battery Replacement Guide to install a new battery.
2) CMOS Battery Failure
The CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) battery is a small internal battery that maintains the BIOS settings, including system time and hardware configurations. If the CMOS battery fails, the laptop may experience power-related issues or fail to boot properly.
Perform a BIOS Reset
- Unplug the charger and disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external monitors, etc.).
- Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds to discharge residual power.
- Plug the charger back in and attempt to turn on the laptop.
- If the laptop powers on but resets the date and time every time it restarts, the CMOS battery is likely failing.
Replace the CMOS Battery
If the laptop remains unresponsive or displays BIOS errors, the CMOS battery needs to be replaced.
- Open the laptop’s bottom panel by unscrewing the screws.
- Locate the small round CMOS battery on the motherboard.
- Carefully remove it and replace it with a compatible CMOS battery.
- Reassemble the laptop and test if it powers on.
Follow our CMOS Battery Replacement Guide for step-by-step instructions.
3) Faulty SSD
A malfunctioning Solid State Drive (SSD) can also cause boot failures or prevent the laptop from turning on altogether.
Check SSD Connection
- Turn off the laptop and unplug the power adapter.
- Unscrew and remove the bottom panel to access internal components.
- Locate the SSD slot (Common models: M.2 2242 or M.2 2280).
- Ensure the SSD is securely inserted in its slot by gently pressing it down.
- If the SSD appears loose, remove it and reinsert it firmly into the slot.
- Reattach the bottom panel, reconnect the charger, and attempt to power on the laptop.
Test the SSD in Another Device
If the laptop still does not turn on, test whether the SSD itself is faulty.
- Turn off a compatible second device (another laptop or desktop).
- Remove the SSD from the Lenovo IdeaPad.
- Insert the SSD into the second device’s M.2 slot.
- Power on the second device:
- If the second device boots normally or detects the SSD, the issue is with the Lenovo IdeaPad’s motherboard or connections.
- If the second device does not detect the SSD, the SSD is likely faulty and needs to be replaced.
If needed, follow our SSD Replacement Guide to install a new SSD.
