If the battery of your Kindle 10 drains more quickly than expected, follow this troubleshooting guide.
Stuck on Search Indexing
The Kindle is stuck indexing a book in the background. To check if this is the problem:
- Go to the Library and search for a word and tap on “Search Everywhere.”
- Look at Words in Books (number) - if it's grayed out and the number is 0, you're OK. If it's black and indicated books not indexed, tap on it and see which books are the offenders

- Tap the 3 dots icon in the upper right-hand corner.
- Tap settings and proceed to device options.
- Tap advanced options
- Tap “update your Kindle”
Excess Storage Draining Battery
Having more free space in your Kindle may help its battery drain slower. To free up space tap the library icon on the bottom right of your screen, the tap and hold the book you would like to uninstall. Then select, “remove from device”
Light Setting Too Bright
Slide down on the top of your screen, you can then adjust the brightness level of your kindle on a scale of 0-24
Unoptimized Battery Usage
Below are some times for improving the battery life of your Kindle:
- Use airplane mode when Wi-fi is not needed
- When not using the Kindle you can manually enable sleep mode by pressing and holding the power button. Sleep mode ensures that the kindle isn't unnecessary using battery while you are not using it
- Close unused apps that are running in the background
- If not needed, reduce the brightness level. High brightness has a significant impact on battery levels
- Another way to reduce battery usage is by turning off the page refresh option. To do this go to Settings > Options > Toggle off Page Refresh
