Does your JBL Go 2 produce distorted or crackling audio at high volumes? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.

The Battery Is Too Low

Having a low battery can reduce audio quality, resulting in distortion. This comes from the speaker not getting enough power. Fully charge the speaker (at least 80%) before playing audio again or play audio while charging the speaker.

Bluetooth Connection Needs To Be Reestablished

Unpair and Re-pair Bluetooth: Forget the JBL GO 2 in your settings, reset Bluetooth (Turn On/Off Bluetooth). For interference, if you're too far from the speaker, distortion can occur. Move within 3 feet and try playing the audio again.

The Speaker Was Exposed to Water

Even though JBL Go 2 is waterproof, water can still get in the speaker and give it a temporary distorted audio. Let the speaker dry completely for 24 hours. (Don’t use a hair dryer to quicken this process.) If after drying and there is still distorted audio, there could be a possible case of internal corrosion

The Internal Speaker Driver Was Not Maintained Properly

The internal speaker driver on the JBL Go 2 can cause a multitude of sound issues if the speaker is not maintained properly. Issues can arise if there is physical damage inside the cone of the speaker, as well as exposure to moisture. Even though the device is rated as waterproof, it is only rated to be waterproof for up to 30 minutes. To fix the internal speaker driver, there are many steps to take to try and maintenance the device. First, clean the driver using compressed air and a to remove dust and debris from the device. Second, dry the device completely, usually for 24-48 hours to get rid of any moisture within the device. If neither one of the first two suggestions work, replacing the driver might be necessary. Replacement can be done by removing the metal mesh with a pry tool, opening the housing by unscrewing the six screws, and replacing the faulty driver.

The Speaker Grille Needs to Be Replaced

The speaker grille on the JBL Go 2 can cause distorted audio issues as it becomes loose over time as the speaker is used frequently. Replacing the speaker grille can be done by carefully prying off the metal mesh on the front of the speaker. This can be done by using a plastic pry tool, positioning the tool in between the metal mesh and the main body of the speaker. Move the pry tool all around the perimeter of the body of the speaker, and once complete, the metal mesh should come off from the speaker. Once the metal mesh is removed from the speaker, you may install the new grille. This can be done by positioning the new grille with the rubber housing, snapping it in place once complete.
