HP ProBook 640 G4 Not Charging
Laptop does not charge when plugged in. Follow these steps to keep laptop charged.
Charging Cord is Not Plugged in Properly
Unplug the charging cord from the laptop and the power outlet. Then, make sure to firmly reconnect the power adapter to the wall outlet and the laptop's charging port. The plug should not wiggle or feel loose. If your laptop uses a detachable power brick, check that the cable between the brick and the wall plug is also secure.
Corrupted Power Outlet
The issue could be the wall outlet itself. Try unplugging the cord from the wall and connect it to a different outlet in another room or on a different circuit. You could also check the wall outlet by plugging in a different device to see if it charges. If the outlet doesn't charge either device, then avoid using it and contact an electrician.
Charging Port Blocked
Make sure to turn off and unplug the laptop. Then, clear charging port of dust or debris by gently using a non-metal toothpick or compressed air. Be careful not to damage the internal pins. After cleaning, reconnect the charger to see if the laptop charges properly.
Charging Cord is Damaged
Check the charging cord for any frayed wires, bent connectors, or burn marks. If you see any of those, or damage near the ends, stop using it and replace it immediately. Make sure the replacement charger is manuafacturer-approved.
Charging Port is Damaged
The charging port itself may be faulty. Look for signs such as wobbling when you plug in the charger. See Charging Port replacement guide.
Battery is Defective
If previous steps do not work, a worn-out or defective battery can overheat and stress your system. If your laptop seems to be hot near the battery area or is failing to hold a charge then see the guide for replacing the battery
Damaged Motherboard
If everything else previously stated fails to work, the motherboard may be the problem. The motherboard is the component that controls power delivery to the laptop. A damaged motherboard can stop the battery from charging even with a working charger and battery. See the Motherboard replacement guide.
