If your HP 14-dq5009nr laptop does not turn on and nothing happens when pressing the power button, follow this troubleshooting guide for potential solutions.
External Device Interference
Sometimes external devices that are malfunctioning, such as external hard drive or even a mouse can cause the laptop to malfunction and crash, before moving on you should remove/unplug all external devices and try and power on the laptop.
Device overheating
Over time, dust can accumulate in the cooling fan’s vents, reducing their performance and causing your device to feel hot. You can use a can of computer duster to blow out the dust from the vents. Alternatively, you can use a toothpick to clean out dust, but be careful not to dig too deep or you may hit the control panel. These solutions can be found here.
Damaged Charging Cable/Port
Check the charging port for blockage, then check the charging cable for visible damage. If the charging port has debris, use a small soft brush to gently clean out the port. If the charger cable is damaged, avoid using it as there is a risk of electrocution. However, if you are comfortable with using soldering materials, and have basic electrical knowledge here is a youtube tutorial on how to fix a charging cable.
Display Failure
If the screen is frozen, the first thing you should do is hard reset your device, which instructions can be found here. If issues persists the next thing you should do is try and connect to an external monitor to see if the device gives a display. If it does, great! The device is powering on and what you should do is go through a display guide on how to fix a display which can be found here. If it doesn’t give a display you should continue trying to troubleshoot the device.
Faulty battery
The HP 14-dq5009nr uses lithium-ion batteries which degrade over time, especially If the device is exposed to excessive temperatures or is frequently cycled. If your device has a noticeably decreased battery life, won't power on when removed from the charger, or turns off without warning, then the battery within the laptop is likely nearing the end of its life and will prevent your device from booting.
- If the battery appears to be swollen, follow these instructions before you begin the battery replacement process.
Motherboard Failure
If all other troubleshooting attempts have been exhausted, then the motherboard is most likely the problem.
