Unresponsive Screen
The screen does not accept touch inputs.
The could be caused by damage to parts of the device or there could be a loose connection inside the device.
Broken Screen
The screen glass is visibly fractured, possibly causing the image to display incorrectly or not at all.
Damaged Digitizer
The digitizer has been damaged by liquid exposure or impacts, or internal malfunction. Replace it.
Failure to Charge
The device does not power on or the indicator light does not activate upon plugging in the device.
It may be the charger, charging port or battery. First use a different charger, and inspect the charge port on the unit. If the inside is jammed or bent, it will need to be replaced. If the port is fine and the new charger does not fix the problem the battery should be replaced.
Faulty Battery
The battery had been damaged by liquid exposure, impacts, irregular charging patterns or age.
The battery may no longer be functional and have some defects. This means that the battery needs to be replaced with another rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Use our Garmin Nuvi 2689LMT Battery Replacement guide to replace your battery.
Broken DC Power Cord
There could be a tear in the cord or something internally wrong which is causing the device to no longer charge the Garmin, so the car charger needs to be replaced with a new one.
Broken DC Power Jack
The charging port could have been jammed when the car charger was being inserted to the back of the device. The port will need to be replaced or the whole motherboard needs to be replaced.
Imprecise/Inconsistent Location Displayed
The satellite receiver has malfunctioned in some way.
The device does not display your correct location, does not properly follow your movement, constantly reroutes the directions, or takes a very long time to find the route.
Faulty GPS Receiver
First try restarting the device and inputting the address again. If that doesn’t works the satellite sensor may be bad. The receiver is integral to the main circuit board. The whole board should be replaced.
Issues with Bluetooth Connection
The device is not able to discover new bluetooth devices and/or bluetooth devices cannot discover the device.
Defective Bluetooth Module
First, restart both the Garmin device and any Bluetooth handset. Try discovering a Bluetooth handset again. If Bluetooth handsets are still not discover-able and/or the Garmin device is not showing up on any Bluetooth handset, then the Bluetooth module in the Garmin device may need to be replaced.
Failure to Turn On
The screen only flashes the Garmin logo when you turn it on, or it does not turn on at all.
The car has to be on for the device to charge, test the unit while the car is running or take it inside and plug it into the wall.
Insufficient Battery Charge
The car has to be on for the device to charge, so check to make sure the car is on.
Plug the device into the car charger and let it charge for a few minutes. Then, turn on the device and see if it goes to the home screen after the logo comes up.
If this fails, bring the device inside and plug it into the wall. If it won't charge, use another charger. If the second charger works it was the charger. Find another one. If it does not work it is the battery. Replace the battery.
Nonfunctional Battery
Refer back to the previous section that also talks about a non-functioning battery and what to do with it.
