Garmin Nuvi 2539LMT Screen Won't Turn On
The Garmin Nuvi 2539LMT Screen cannot be used without being plugged in, and when the GPS is plugged in, the screen is extremely dim.
Possible Solutions:
Depleted Battery Pack
The Garmin Nuvi 2539LMT’s battery life has diminished, preventing the use of the device whilst in transit or without constant access to a charging cord.
- Unscrew the four screws present on the back of the Garmin Nuvi 2539LMT
- pry apart the screen and back panel from a corner position, tracing the seam
- Gently fold the screen forward, the text “Garmin” denoting the pivot, taking care not to damage the internal connection
- Without removing this completely, pry the battery, a now exposed white rectangular component, from the surrounding casing
- Disconnect the square silver element which the two wires directly connected to the battery lead into
- Remove the battery, which includes the square component the two wires connect to, from the Garmin Nuvi 2539LMT
- Press the corresponding wire element of the replacement battery into the depression the previous element occupied
- Insert the body of the replacement battery fully into the available space
- Return the screen to the original position and press along the seam, so that this is flush with the back panel
- Screw back in the initially removed four screws to the corresponding corners of the back panel
- Charge the Garmin Nuvi 2539LMT so as to verify that new battery is functional and correctly connected
[remember to dispose of the depleted battery in accordance with environmental regulations or preferably recycle this as feasible]
Faulty Screen Display
The Garmin Nuvi 2539LMT display screen can often be fixed by recalibration in the settings of the device.
- Unplug and completely power the device off
- Press and hold the top left corner of the touch screen
- Hold the power button until the display powers on
- Continue to hold the touch screen until the device shows a screen that says “touch dots”
- Press the dots on screen to calibrate the touchscreen’s accuracy
- Press “Ok” once the device is finished calibrating
Faulty Power Adaptor/Cord
The Garmin Nuvi 2539LMT is to be plugged into a power supply within the automobile. If the Adapter or Cord is not working properly, that could cause device to turn off and the screen to appear dim.
- Check to make sure the power adapter is plugged into a functional power supply within the automobile.
- Ensure that the blue light on the power adapter is on.
- If the light is not on, consider replacing the power adapter.
- If the light is on the adapter and the device still isn’t working consider replacing the USB port on the device. (see video below)

Faulty Power Button
The power button failure could prevent the device from being triggered to turn on in the first place. This can be fixed by replacing it.
- Turn the device backward to where the bottom is.
- Using the T5 Torx Screwdriver to remove all 4 of the screws from the back of the device.
- Use plastic tools to pry the shorter sides of the device apart.
- Using the angled tweezers, grasp the red, black, and green wires that link the battery to the motherboard, then carefully pull them away from the motherboard.
- Using the angled tweezers, grab the microphone wires and gently pull to remove the microphone from the device.
- Using the Screwdriver, remove all 4 screws from the motherboard.
- Using the plastic opening tools, gently pry the motherboard away from the case. (Do not desolder)
- Using tweezers, lift the button out of its socket.
Outdated/Depreciated Software
The Garmin Nuvi 2539LMT may freeze, run slowly, or display software errors caused by outdated software or corrupted files.
- Connect it to a computer using a USB cable.
- Hold the Power button for 10–15 seconds to restart.
- If that fails, press and hold the bottom right corner of the screen while turning it on for a soft reset.
- Reinstall maps using Garmin Express.
- Check that your SD card is properly inserted and formatted.
- Go to Settings → Device → Reset → Delete Data and Reset Settings, then reconnect to Garmin Express to reinstall maps and updates.
