Device does not turn on
What does the big green button do?
Dead battery
Make sure the batteries are installed correctly with a full charge. If the Flip Video still does not turn on, check for any foreign debris on the contacts where the batteries are connected.
Bad front display
It is possible that your device is turning on but the display is not functioning correctly. This could be due to internal damage.
Bad logic board
If the Flip Video still does not turn on after replacing the batteries, then you may need to purchase and replace the logic board. Alternatively, there may be a broken connection that could be reconnected or re-soldered.
Can't upload files
You really can't upload the files.
Incorrect or missing software/driver
The computer must have the Flip Video drivers installed before the Flip Video can be recognized. The drivers are included in the package or can be downloaded from The Flip. The software must also be installed to initiate file transfer. All system requirements must be met in order to properly install software (i.e. Windows XP, Windows Vista, etc).
Bad USB port
Since the USB is continually flipped in and out, the cables connecting it can become worn creating a loose or broken connection. The USB port can be repaired.
Corrupted internal memory
The internal memory can become corrupted over time. In order to maintain the memory you should format it consistently. Formatting is erasing all the memory and rewriting the file system, which can be done by right clicking on the device and clicking "Format". A clear indication that you need to do this is if the memory is less than expected. Additionally, files can be corrupted if you remove the device while it is transferring information.
Various broken hardware
The five second rule does not apply.
Cracked lens
If there is a visible crack over the lens, the entire front panel will need to be replaced.
Cracked screen
If the plastic screen cover cracks from a fall, the LCD may not be broken, but it does mean that the outer panel will need to be replaced.
A replacement casing can be found online on sites like eBay. A a whole new Flip Video will need to be taken apart to get the part.
Broken buttons
If any of the directional buttons are sticking, disassembly for cleaning or replacement is required.
Broken LCD
If the LCD is cracked or distorted then you will need to disassemble the device and replace the LCD.
