Dell Latitude 3420 Unresponsive Touchpad
When attempting to press on the touchpad of Dell Latitude 3420, there is no cursor movement on the screen as expected. Follow these steps to identify and fix the problem with your laptop.
Touchpad Disabled
The touchpad can be disabled by using a function key combination, such as FN+F3. If this was pressed, the touchpad will become unresponsive. The touchpad can also be disabled through settings. If a user changed BIOS settings, either inside settings manually or from a system update, the touchpad could become nonfunctioning.
Outdated Touchpad Drivers
All Dell computers rely on Microsoft drivers to run specific components. If the touchpad driver is outdated, uninstalled, or incompatible with the current version of Windows this could result in a system failing to recognize the touchpad.
Missing Windows Update
A new Windows update or changes to system settings can cause issues with touchpad functionality.
Internal Component Issue
Physical damage to the computer or touchpad specifically can cause it to stop working entirely. This may require part replacements, especially if the touchpad cable is loose internally or the touchpad itself is defective.
